Former Morrisons executive joins chicken empire

Morrison’s former chief operating officer has joined ‘the Chicken King’s’ empire, taking on the role of portfolio director.
Trevor Strain, who left the grocer in 2022 after 13 years, joins Ranjit Singh Boparan’s private office. Boparan said he was “delighted” with Strain’s appointment and that “as part of BPO senior executive team he will be focused on growth opportunities for our portfolio of businesses”.
Strain is set to oversee the growth of brands such as Bernard Matthews, Carluccio’s, Elkes Biscuits and Gourmet Burger Kitchen, not Boparan’s poultry empire 2 Sisters Food Group.
During his tenure at Morrisons, Strain was tipped to become its next CEO after David Potts.
When announcing his departure, he said: “This has been a very difficult decision for me, but I believe if I am to take on a new challenge for the next few years then it would be better to make that change at the start of the Morrisons journey in private equity, and not in the middle of it.
“The pandemic was an incredibly difficult time for everyone, but the way Morrisons rose to that challenge, fed the nation, and made sure no one was left behind, fills me with pride”.
