Former newspaper office earmarked for up to 145 homes

The former Express & Star office in Wolverhampton could be transformed into a 145-home scheme between 2031 to 2036.

The Wolverhampton Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) has earmarked the vacant office as a potential location to accommodate a new housing development, following a study of sites within the city.

Staff were relocated from the 0.53-hectare Castle Street building in early December to a base at Mander House, an office development above a shopping centre in the city.

Claverley Group, the newspaper’s former parent company, still owns the building after the paper was acquired by National World last year.

The building remains on the market with estate agent Knight Frank and is described as a “rare, substantial city centre mixed use opportunity with approximately 350 space multi-storey car park”.
