GMB Union has announced the names of thirty-five Birmingham Schools that will begin a strike vote next week.

The ballot comes after the union accused Birmingham City Council of delay in resolving the equal pay crisis impacting city workers.

Nearly 90% of Birmingham City Council workers backed strike action in a recent council-wide consultative ballot of GMB members, with further waves of formal strike ballots expected to be announced.

Alice Reynolds, GMB Organiser, said “Workers in these schools didn’t create this crisis, Birmingham city bosses did. But it’s our members facing an uncertain future and a Council leaving them in the dark on settling claims for equal pay. Now they’ll have their say on strike action to finally force Birmingham City Council to take seriously their demand to end this crisis.”
