First phase of plan to redevelop Cannock town centre underway

Cannock Chase Council is gearing up to kick off the initial phase of its plan to revitalise a section of its town centre.
During its upcoming Cabinet meeting on March 28th, council members will be briefed on the new scheme, which has received a £20m boost from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund.
Additionally, they will be asked to authorise an initial expenditure of £9m to advance the project’s first phase.
This phase will focus on establishing a new Northern Gateway, improving access to the town centre from the Ringway.
It will also involve upgrades to the Council’s neighbouring Beecroft Road Car Park and demolishing the former multi-storey car park in town.
Pending approval, construction is slated to commence later this year.
Leader of the Council, Councillor Tony Johnson said: “I am pleased that we are now close to being able to spend nearly half of the £20m funding allocated by the Government and will soon be able to get on and create the improved town centre in Cannock everyone deserves.
“This is an ambitious scheme, where we are working closely with Government, the county council and our partners in the community; not least to maximise the best use of the resources we have available which have been affected by inflationary pressures we all know about.”
