Over £700k for new football facility in Stoke
Powerleague, a provider of commercial small-sided football in the UK, has committed over £750,000 to develop a new state-of-the-art community football facility in Sneyd Green, Stoke.
The project will include the construction of eight new 5-a-side pitches, four new 7-a-side pitches, and a clubhouse with changing rooms and a children’s party area.
Adjacent to Port Vale FC, this investment follows Stoke City Council’s approval of a new lease agreement.
Powerleague Stoke Excel will open this summer, offering upgraded facilities for students, sports enthusiasts, and the local community.
This will be Powerleague’s 43rd club across the UK, Ireland, and the Netherlands, creating 12 local jobs.
Powerleague’s new facility at Excel Academy will improve Stoke’s sports offerings, joining the Powerleague Stoke club in the city’s south, which already attracts over 2,500 players weekly.
Powerleague CEO, Christian Rose, said: “Our Powerleague facilities are renowned for delivering world-class sporting experiences while fostering economic, social, and physical well-being within the communities we serve. We are thrilled to extend these benefits to the residents of North Stoke, particularly in Sneyd Green, where opportunities for safe and accessible sports venues are scarce.”
“The rejuvenation of the full-size pitches at Excel Academy is long overdue, and our £750,000 investment will not only revitalise the school’s facilities but also enrich the lives of students, grassroots players, community groups, and local residents alike. This marks the culmination of 20 months of dedication and negotiation, and we thank the team at Excel Academy and the planners at Stoke-on-Trent City Council for their support in this essential sporting project.”
The build programme is expected to take six to eight weeks with a launch scheduled for late June.
