Green light for improvement works at St Editha Square

Changes are on the horizon for St Editha’s Square, as planning permission has been granted for a series of improvement works aimed at enhancing the area.

The project is part of Tamworth Borough Council’s broader regeneration efforts, with over £21m being invested in the revitalisation of Tamworth town centre.

Key features of the project include the removal of existing steps, which will be replaced with decorative paving to create a seamless flow throughout the square.

The current tree will be removed and replaced with six native trees, adding greenery and improving the area’s aesthetic.

New benches and bike racks will be added, while the existing security bollards will be updated for improved safety.

There will be the installation of new lights, and part of College Lane will also be repaved to improve overall accessibility.

Other regeneration efforts include the establishment of a second Enterprise Centre in the historic 19th-century former Co-operative building on Colehill, as well as renovations at Middle Entry that will see the emergence of a new flexible, multi-use building for independent small businesses.

Renovation work on the vacant historic properties on Market Street is also expected to commence before Christmas.
