Former NHS office to be transformed into co-living scheme
Plans have been submitted to transform a former NHS office building in West Bromwich into 128 co-living units.
Developer TheStudios has lodged proposals to redevelop the 43,000 sq ft Kingston House on West Bromwich’s High Street into co-living accommodation.
The 128 studios would be developed within 22 clusters of 6. Complete with private en-suite facilities and a shared kitchen. On the ground floor, plans feature a gym, cinema room, large outdoor terrace, laundry, workspaces and lounge.
In planning documents, TheStudios said: “We aim to replicate the success of this model by bringing much-needed affordable and luxury co-living spaces to the High Street town within West Bromwich. This proposal will bring significant private investment into West Bromwich High Street and bring old disused office spaces back into use as affordable accommodation.”
“TheStudios is committed to working with and supporting local partners and businesses within the West Bromwich area. Our development would increase footfall and spending which would assist with general economic growth within the local area to support the West Bromwich town plan.”
Plans would reduce the number of car parking spaces from 95 to 56 alongside the creation of 38 cycle spaces.
West Midlands Police has said it is against the proposed scheme due to parking spaces, as “once the car park spaces are taken up all other vehicles will have to find spaces in the surrounding area where there will be no natural surveillance.
“This area suffers twice the national average in vehicle crime and this will see a rise in vehicle crime”.
It criticises the lack of mention of security or CCTV.
