300-bed student accommodation gets the go-ahead
A 301-bed student accommodation project in Birmingham has received unanimous approval.
The scheme, proposed by Sama Investments, forms part of the wider redevelopment of The Arcadian Centre.
Located at the former Goods Yard on Pershore Street, the development will feature a stepped building design with sections rising to four, 10, and 15 storeys.
Revisions were made after feedback from the City Design Officer, including an increase in purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) beds from 238 to 301 and an extension of the site to the corner of Cathay Street.
The project is intended to create “a true gateway to the Arcadian” and support broader redevelopment plans in the area, including sites opposite the development and the Birmingham Indoor Market.
It has also been endorsed by LCP, the Arcadian’s owner, which highlighted its potential to enhance connectivity and contribute to the area’s transformation.
Future residents will enjoy amenities such as a social lounge, TV room, gym, workspaces, a green roof, and 64 cycle spaces.
While Councillor Gareth Moore described the CGI of the building as “dull” and raised concerns about its design, the application was ultimately approved without objection.
