Strike action threatens big delays for HGV giants

Around 150 workers at vehicle parts manufacturer CNC Speedwell are set to strike over an ongoing pay dispute.

The Walsall-based manufacturer, which is part of the Castings group, develops key components for Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), including Volvo, DAF and Scania.

GMB Union say “staff are furious” after company managers rejected demands for a pay rise of £1 and that strike action could cause a month of delays for some HGV brands.

Industrial action could take place as early as February, with around 150 workers expected to walk out.

Chris Hoofe, GMB Organiser, said: “These workers are key to the Heavy Goods Vehicle sector, producing components for companies across the UK.

“This strike could have a real impact and even a month of delays for some of the biggest brands in the industry.

“It’s time for company bosses to get back around the table and deliver the goods”.

CNC Speedwell has been contacted for comment, with no response received.
