Mayor rallies over 50 experts to tackle West Midlands challenges

Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, has appointed over 50 experts from the region’s housing, transport, economic and skills sectors to support his work in addressing key regional challenges.
The 56 experts will be split into four task forces focused on the Mayor’s priorities: growth for everyone, jobs for everyone, homes for everyone and journeys for everyone.
The first task force to meet was the Growth Taskforce on January 27, where members discussed how to balance economic growth with environmental concerns, support businesses and ensure the benefits of growth reach all communities.
The Journeys Taskforce will meet on January 28 to focus on improving transport options across the region, making them safer, more affordable and easier to access.
Next week, the Jobs Taskforce will meet on February 5 to explore ways to invest in skills training and apprenticeships, reduce youth unemployment and improve access to well-paying jobs.
The Homes Taskforce will meet the following day, February 6, to discuss how to increase the construction of affordable and social housing and create more sustainable communities.
Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands said: “My mission is simple: jobs, homes, growth, and journeys for everyone in the West Midlands. My priorities are about making the changes that will improve people’s lives and allow our communities to thrive.
“These task forces bring together the brightest minds to tackle our biggest challenges and help turn my vision into action with real solutions that make a lasting difference. The West Midlands is full of talent, innovation, and ambition, and with these experts at the table, we will build a better future for everyone.”
