Gaming giant Ubisoft is set to axe 185 jobs and shut its Leamington office in a bid to “ensure long-term stability”.

The gaming developer behind Assassin’s Creed, The Division and Just Dance is restructuring its Ubisoft Reflections office in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and closing the Leamington site, resulting in the loss of 100 jobs.

Another 85 jobs will be lost through restructures at Ubisoft Düsseldorf and Ubisoft Stockholm.

Ubisoft acquired the Leamington studio in 2017 when it was known as FreeStyleGames and developed the DJ Hero games and Guitar Hero Live.

A restructuring programme was announced by the French published on January 9, to reshape the group and drive €200m of reductions for its fixed cost base by 2025-26.

It followed the closure of three production studios in “high-cost geographies” in December.

A statement from Ubisoft reads: “As part of our ongoing efforts to prioritize projects and reduce costs that ensure long-term stability at Ubisoft, we have announced targeted restructurings at Ubisoft Düsseldorf, Ubisoft Stockholm and Ubisoft Reflections and the permanent closure of Ubisoft Leamington site.

“Unfortunately, this should impact 185 employees overall, including approximately 100 positions across Ubisoft Leamington and Ubisoft Reflections. We are deeply grateful for their contributions and are committed to supporting them through this transition.”
