Search begins for developer to deliver landmark Worcester masterplan

The hunt has begun for a development partner to deliver one of the largest regeneration projects in Worcestershire.

Shrub Hill Quarter, a masterplan jointly created by Worcestershire County Council and Worcester City Council, proposes a mixed-use neighbourhood that will be an extension of the city centre.

The area could provide up to 5,000 jobs, more than 500 homes, a new gateway to the city and five acres of new public space.

Working alongside the development team at Savills, Worcestershire County Council are looking to select a partner by the Autumn of this year.

The first phase of the scheme will include all land owned by Worcestershire County Council at Lower Yard and Upper Yard, which is known and operated as Shrub Hill Industrial Estate.

As a whole, Shrub Hill Quarter occupies an area of approximately 35 acres next to the city centre in Worcester and is located directly next to Worcester Shrub Hill Station. It is understood that station upgrades will be delivered and service enhancements are planned for the area.

Sadie Janes, director and joint head of the development team at Savills in Birmingham said: “This proposed development has the potential to become one of the largest regeneration initiatives in the region, offering a unique opportunity to transform a significant part of Worcester, close to the city centre and to create an exemplary mixed-use neighbourhood. Given its enormous and exciting potential, we are anticipating a strong level of interest among developers looking to be involved in this major regeneration project.”

Cllr Adam Kent, Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member for economy and skills added: “With transformed national connectivity and inspiring heritage, Shrub Hill Quarter will become a vibrant new community and destination for Worcester. It will be a home for enterprise, ideas and experiences; a place which is recognised for sustainable and innovative forms of living, working and relaxing, which is driven by local energy and participation. Supporting the County and City’s investment and growth aspirations, we are confident it will become established as an exemplar for successful and inspiring urban renewal and investment.”
