A Birmingham-based motorcycle manufacturer has closed its doors due to falling demand, costing all jobs.

Mutt Motorcycles, known for its small cc, retro-styled bikes and lifestyle store, appointed David Shambrook and Matthew Haw of RSM UK Restructuring Advisory LLP as joint administrators on March 3.

The business has now ceased trading, with all 18 employees made redundant.

Founded by Will Rigg and Benny Thomas, retro bike firm Mutt Motorcycles began to expand into Europe and around the world.

A facility from UK Export Finance meant Mutt could develop a site in Rotterdam, which managed its Europen stock post-Brexit.

Mutt moved into new headquarters in Kings Norton, in a part old Victorian mill and part 70’s car museum. The HQ had a Mutt showroom, store, alongside workshops, R&D lab, creative and admin operations, coffee shop, a secret whiskey bar.

On its website, Mutt said: “We like to think we’ve brought motorcycle manufacturing back to its Birmingham roots. Our bikes are created with a similar vibe to how bikes were built around here in the early days of BSA, Triumph, Enfield and New Imperial”.

Administrators told TheBusinessDesk.com: “The company experienced a period of difficult trading due to a decline in market demand. As a result, the business faced significant financial pressures and was unable to secure the necessary funding to continue operating.”
