Final destination for Goldstar Couriers

COVENTRY-based Goldstar Couriers has been sold to a major UK delivery business after 25 years of independent trading.
Goldstar, which was established by the Davey family, is one of the city’s largest courier firms, but has now been sold to Citysprint for an undisclosed sum.
Therefore as of March 1, the company’s customers will be serviced by Citysprint and its self-employed couriers will have a new business to deal with.
“My family and I have worked hard over the last 25 years to build Goldstar Couriers into an established and reliable local courier company and we have a loyal customer base, some of whom we have been providing services to for over 20 years,” said Davey.
Davey, who will continue to work for the enlarged business, said that the recession had been tough for Goldstar but that she felt that its acquirer was better equipped to deal with a harsher economic environment.
“In the current economic climate it has been a struggle for small businesses like us, joining forces with Citysprint enables us to offer our customers an enhanced service and access to leading edge technologies and a national network of over 1500 couriers – something that we simply could not offer on our own,” she said.
It is the fourth deal of this nature for Citysprint in the past 16 months and the business now has bases in Warwick, Birmingham, Telford and Nottingham.
Martin Poole, regional manager for the Midlands, said the region was of massive importance to the business and its growth.
“The Midlands are a huge part of our business and it has a great motorway network. It wasn’t long ago that we only had one centre but we now have four.
“It is our largest area outside of London so it is very important that we strengthen our business here.”
