Pre-tax profit returns to black at Michelmersch

MICHELMERSH Brick Holdings, the specialist brick manufacturer and landfill company, has seen group turnover increase by 14% to £12.2m.

In its half-year results for the period ended June 30, 2011, the company, which owns Blockleys Brick in Telford, has seen year-on-year H1 turnover climb to £12.2m from £10.7m.

Gross profit margin moved from 27% to 32% while operating profit was £508,000, a significant spike from £152,000.

Pre-tax profit moved into the black at £105,000 from a H1 2010 loss of £634,000.
Its group volume of bricks sold was up by 13% from 32m to 36m while the Telford factory reorganisation saw an additional 15 acres released for development.

Chairman Eric Gadsden said: “The business is now well positioned and resilient, benefiting not only from past investment, but also the measures taken over the last two years to direct output to a reduced market.

“Our distinct product offering, geography and strength mean we are well placed to maintain our strong independent position in the brick sector.”
