Shoosmiths receives top conveyancing award

SHOOSMITHS has become the largest law firm in England and Wales so far to secure the Law Society’s Conveyancing Quality Scheme.

The CQS is a mark of excellence awarded to firms for their home buying process.

Shoosmiths, which has 98 partners and offices in Birmingham, Manchester, Basingstoke, Northampton, Nottingham, Reading, Milton Keynes and Southampton, had to pass strict assessment by the Law Society in order to secure CQS status.

The firm’s accreditation brings to 653 the total number of CQS firms in England and Wales.

Desmond Hudson, the Law Society’s chief executive, said: “Shoosmiths’ accreditation illustrates that CQS is an initiative that is suitable for firms of all sizes.”

David Parton, partner at Shoosmiths, said: “We are delighted to have secured CQS accreditation. It is recognition that our Access Legal consumer services meet the benchmark for conveyancing set by the Law Society.”

CQS requires practices to undergo a strict assessment, compulsory training, self reporting, random audits and annual reviews in order to maintain CQS status. It is open only to members of the Law Society who meet the demanding standards set by the scheme and has the support of the Council of Mortgage Lenders, the Building Societies Association, Legal Ombudsman and the Association of British Insurers.
