BDO poaches new partner from city rival

THE Birmingham office of BDO has poached a new partner from city rival KPMG. Phil Emmerson has moved to BDO’s business restructuring team after an 18-year career with KPMG.

Mr Emmerson specialises in advising businesses on how to stabilise, restructure and safeguard their futures, avoiding the formal insolvency route.  He advises corporates on working capital management, improving operational performance, refinancing and restructuring.

Mark Anslow, partner and head of BDO in Birmingham, said the appointment highlighted his firm’s commitment to investing in talent and the long term survival of the region’s businesses.

“Phil’s appointment bolsters our advisory offering and provides clients with an additional layer of expertise that comes into play further up the decline curve,” he said.

“We are delighted to have him on board.  He has significant experience in his field, which will no doubt prove valuable to both new and existing clients.”

Mr Emmerson said he saw his role as providing real-life, commercial solutions to businesses that were underperforming, whether this was in crisis or simply because they wanted to ensure they were in a strong position for the future.

He said genuine restructuring had a huge role to play over the next few years and he would be urging businesses to take stock of their financial position and operational performance and seek advice early if they had performance concerns.

“The opportunity to join BDO as a partner in its business restructuring team is an exciting one.  The firm has a good brand and a great reputation in the market place, and I look forward to working closely with partners Jo Wright and Kim Rayment, and the business restructuring team already in place,” he said.
