Windy mission as Birmingham leaders head to American twin

A DELEGATION of civic, business and education organisations from Birmingham will travel to twin city Chicago next week to promote closer links and investment opportunities between the two.

City council leader Cllr Mike Whitby will meet with senior management from Kraft Food, parent company to Birmingham-based Cadbury, which is headquartered in Northfield near Chicago.

Issues to be discussed will include the company’s investment in its site in Bournville, job creation and the potential for further growth at the site following last year’s takeover.

Officials from Birmingham Airport will also take part in the five-day trip, commencing Monday, who will meet with Chicago-based United Airlines, and the Chicago Aviation Commissioner, to highlight the need for direct flights between the two cities to be re-introduced.

Additional meetings will be held with the city’s mayor Rahm Emanuel and representatives from inward investment body Business Birmingham, the University of Birmingham and Birmingham City University.
