Digby Jones joins TheBusinessDesk.com as columnist

LORD Digby Jones has signed up with TheBusinessDesk.com West Midlands to write an exclusive monthly column for the fast-growing business news website.

Lord Jones, the controversial former Birmingham lawyer, head of the CBI and non-political trade minister in Gordon Brown’s government is known for his outspoken views on politics and business. He will use his column – which is first published on the site tomorrow – to give his verdict on politics, business and UK plc as a whole.

He said he was “very pleased” to be linking up with TheBusinessDesk.com and keeping in touch with businesses across the West Midlands.

“It is so important in these febrile party political times that the business voice is heard. Business is the only generator of wealth and thus the tax which pays for our schools and hospitals and we must not let its voice be crowded out of the debate.

“I am looking forward to doing this regular column which I hope will prove stimulating and thought-provoking.”

Higgs & Sons logoLord Jones’ column is published in association with Black Country law firm Higgs & Sons. Managing Partner Paul Hunt said: “Lord Digby’s views are always of interest to the business community. We’re delighted to sponsor the Business Desk’s new column and hope people enjoy reading it.”

Marc Reeves, West Midlands editor of TheBusinessDesk.com said Lord Jones was a provocative but always entertaining columnist. “There’s no-one in the business community of the West Midlands who doesn’t have a view on Digby,” he said.

He’s a real ‘Marmite’ character – you either like him or you don’t. For me, though, it’s Digby’s joint passion for business and his home region that always shine through and I’m very pleased to be able to welcome him to TheBusinessDesk.com as our first regular columnist.”
