Revenues fall at Trinity Mirror’s regionals

REVENUES from circulation and advertising among Trinity Mirror’s regional newspaper titles have dropped, the company said today.

In an interim management statement for the 17 weeks ended October 30, 2011, the newspaper publisher reports a fall of 3% in circulation revenues, which it said was “an improvement in the level of volume trend declines”.

The plc, which publishes the Birmingham Post and Mail, Sunday Mercury and Coventry Telegraph, said advertising revenues fell by 7%, with display ads dropping by 3% and classified down 10% at its regional titles.

Recruitment advertising fell by 9% but it said it achieved growth in digital recruitment advertising revenues.

Property, motors and other classified advertising revenues fell by 8%, 16% and 11% respectively, it said, while digital revenues have grown by 3% for the period at its regionals.

Trinity Mirror said trading group wide had remained challenging during the period but it had seen a “significant improvement” in circulation volumes and revenue for its national Sunday titles following the closure of the News of the World in July.

The update added that the group remained on track to deliver structural cost savings of £25m for 2011 and net debt had fallen by £20m to £242m since the start of July.
