Michelmersh builds up sales volumes

BRICK manufacturer Michelmersh has announced an increase in sales volumes boosted by its latest acquisition.
The company, which has major interests in Shropshire, said in an AGM statement that sales were well ahead of the same period last year.
Michelmersh, which two years ago mounted a bid to purchase Black Country brick producer Baggeridge before bowing to Austrian rival Weinerberger, acquired the Freshfield Brickworks in March.
In an AGM statement, chairman Eric Gadsden said: “Following the acquisition of Freshfield integration of the business into the group is progressing well and the sale of certain surplus assets of Freshfield is underway, with completion expected in the near future.
“The strengthened brand offering, including the Freshfield products has been well received in the market. Sales across the group are well in excess of equivalent volumes achieved for the same period last year, and enquiry levels are also higher.”
Michelmersh, the largest producer of handmade bricks in the UK, said it was also in final discussions with housing developer Persimmon regarding the development of a large site in Telford.
Elsewhere it said it continued to explore other opportunities to grow the business by acquisition.
