St Modwen reaches Walsall regeneration scheme milestone

WALSALL’S new £2.7m Goldmine youth training centre in Lower Hall Lane is taking shape with the steel structure now in place.

The 20,000 sq ft purpose built property is being created for The Vine Trust and forms part of St. Modwen and Goold Estates’ £90m St Matthew’s Quarter regeneration scheme in the centre of the town.

Goldmine will include training rooms, a library, offices and multipurpose space for public performances. It will be utilised by the Trust to provide training, learning, advice and guidance to young people in the local area.

Neal Haywood, construction manager at St. Modwen, said: “We are delighted to have reached this milestone in the construction of Goldmine. It means that the building is beginning to really take shape and we are on target for a summer opening.”

St. Modwen and Goold Estates were due to begin building the new Goldmine centre on the historic Shannons Mill site in 2007 but the plans were delayed following a fire.

Councillor Adrian Andrew, Walsall Council deputy leader and cabinet member for regeneration, said: “We look forward to Walsall people taking advantage of the new building as well as benefiting from the employment opportunities the new centre will offer.”
