2Fold20Play hoping for a hit with Facebook karaoke game

BIRMINGHAM Science Park Aston-based 2Fold20 Play Ltd is hoping to emulate the success of previous games with the launch of its sing-a-long Facebook game ‘Enjoy! Karaoke’.

Intended to ape the global popularity of Farmville and Draw Something, it attracted 10,000 players in the pre-launch phase, with 59 per cent already having played multiple times.

2Fold20 Play Ltd was the 50th tech start-up to be enrolled into Birmingham Science Park Aston’s Entrepreneurs for the Future business incubation centre. Prime Minister David Cameron visited the park in November to mark this milestone.

Taking inspiration from the numerous singing contests on prime time TV, its new game awards scores to contestants based on the pitch of their vocals when they sing along to chart topping tunes.

A player needs to click onto the Enjoy! Karaoke application through Facebook and connect a microphone to their computer. After a free trial expires, there are options to purchase additional credits to carry on playing.

2Fold20 Play’s founders have a wealth of experience working in the gaming, film, digital and animation sectors for leading global brands including Warner Bros, Impact BBDO, Disney, Philips, and Turner. The social gaming start-up received investment funding from the Creative Advantage Fund, enabling it to recruit employees to develop ‘Enjoy! Karaoke’.

Neill Watson, CEO of 2Fold20 Play Ltd, said: “It has out-performed all our expectations in the pre-launch stage and we are excited about the prospect of major growth.”

The top 100 Facebook games each attract more than two million monthly active users, with the top 25 games each attracting up to 60 million users per month.

Simon Jenner, head of incubation at Birmingham Science Park Aston, said: “Social gaming is a huge industry and Birmingham companies are developing some of the best new applications to hit the market.

“In the past three years, the concept of buying virtual items in return for an experience has become commonplace.”
