Ambitious exporters urged to demonstrate their growth potential

AMBITIOUS businesses in the West Midlands are being invited to demonstrate their hunger for export success by taking part in a competition which could reward them with millions of pounds of funding.
HSBC has announced the funding initiative as part of its Global Connections initiative, which highlights the importance of international trade in the global economy.
Across the UK, the top 10 international and innovative businesses, as selected by a panel of judges, could be awarded a share of £60m of funding – up to £6m lending each. Each of the 10 will receive up to £120,000 with £240,000 going to the eventual winner. The finalists will also be invited to take part in International Exchanges for networking and business development.
Roy Harris, HSBC’s Midlands Regional Commercial Director, said: “Through our many meetings with business leaders across the region, we know that the Midlands is home to many entrepreneurial, forward thinking companies. And, in a tightening domestic economy, international trade offers a great opportunity for many businesses seeking growth.
“Our Global Connections initiative seeks to help UK businesses compete at the forefront of international trade. Not only can we help through providing funding but also through introducing them to other entrepreneurs both in the UK and around the world.”
HSBC has previously taken businesses from across the UK to ‘Thought Exchange’ trips in some of the world’s most dynamic areas of economic growth – Hong Kong, Brazil, New York, United Arab Emirates and Paris – allowing them to meet other businesses and investigate international trade opportunities.
This year’s competition will be linked into a global initiative allowing even more businesses to connect but the competition element will be unique for UK businesses.
The successful UK businesses will be invited to attend one of two high profile International Exchanges in either the USA or UAE. The events will bring together leading business minds from countries across the globe, to share their knowledge and experiences, and discuss the issues they face in today’s business world.
The closing date for entries in July 13 and further details are available by visiting: www.globalconnections.hsbc.co.uk .
