BIS committee chairman on fact finding mission in the Black Country

THE chairman of an important parliamentary business committee has visited two local manufacturing companies to find out how they are coping during the economic downturn.

Adrian Bailey – the chairman of the business, innovation and skills (BIS) committee in Parliament and MP for West Bromwich West – visited Malthouse Engineering in Oldbury and Pargat & Co in West Bromwich.

Bailey said he wanted to understand the pressures facing businesses and whether they are receiving the banking support they need. He was invited by Paul Halford, regional director of NatWest‘s commercial banking business.

The MP said: “Businesses such as these are vital as they create much of the sustainable growth and jobs that will drive our economic recovery. These remain tough times for many businesses, but they have shown that the West Midlands is a great place to do business even in a difficult economic environment.

“Their success also highlights how important it is for businesses and banks to work closely and the important role they will both play in the economic recovery.”

Malthouse Engineering provides steel profiling (flame cutting) services from facilities in Oldbury, Wednesbury, Wakefield, West Bromwich and Worcester while Pargat & Co is the largest aluminium cookware and bakeware manufacturing company in the UK.
