Alstom Grid generates new business worth £13m

TRANSFORMER manufacturer Alstom Grid in Stafford has secured orders worth £13m from EDF Energy.

Under the terms of the first contract, Alstom will deliver three single phase 267 MVA 400KV units to the Sizewell B nuclear power station in Suffolk by the end of the year. Three further transformers are destined for the Torness nuclear power station in Scotland next spring.

A second contract is for the installation of three single phase generator transformers at Torness. Work on this project is already under way.

The new transformers ‘step-up’ the voltage from 23 kV at the generator output, to 400 kV for connection to the National Grid.

Kevin Marriott, Regional Commercial Vice President for North West Europe at Alstom Grid, said: “We are delighted to be able to supply this new generation of transformers and to build upon this important relationship with EDF Energy.

“This is a great local engineering success for Alstom’s highly skilled local workforce in Staffordshire and further strengthens Alstom’s strategic position as a global leader in power generation and electrical grid.”
