More than 60 jobs set for Cab Automotive after RGF pay-out

GOVERNMENT funding allocated to a Black Country-based automotive supplier will help to create more than 60 new jobs, the firm has said.

Cab Automotive is one of several firms in the area to have secured funding as part of the third round settlement of the Regional Growth Fund.

The allocated funding is part of a £124m package designated for the West Midlands to try and help stimulate growth in the manufacturing sector, especially the region’s automotive industry.

John Faulkner, managing director of Cab Automotive, said:”The money will be used over the coming months to assist in three projects which will secure the future of the current workforce as well as creating in the region of 66 new jobs.

“The Black Country has a stiff challenge to create new jobs and we are very pleased to be able to create new opportunities which without this grant would not have been possible.”

He said the difficult economy had presented a series of formidable challenges to the UK automotive supply sector.

“The overseas manufacturing of some components is no longer as viable as it was and with the sponsorship and assistance of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), Department of Trade and Investment, and the UK Government the UK Automotive supply chain must step up to the challenge ensuring we bring this work home,” he added.

Cab Automotive manufactures high quality interior components for Jaguar, Land Rover, Aston Martin, McLaren, Honda, Toyota and Bentley.

Mr Faulkner said the firm had a number of other product development programmes running so it was expecting further growth in the future.
