Wilkes Partnership basks in dealmaking success

THE corporate team at Birmingham law firm The Wilkes Partnership has completed a successful round of dealmaking activity which has seen it involved in summer, completing on a number of transactions worth almost £30m.
The firm built on a productive start to 2012 by advising on six deals during recent weeks, bucking current advisory trends.
Recently appointed partner Rick Smyth led a team on his first deals for the firm, advising on a £12.5m secondary buyout of Welsh aluminium diecaster Cast Alum Ltd by AWH Ltd, as well as acting for management in the MBO of non-destructive testing expert Silverwing UK.
The team also advised Birmingham-based software consultancy Edenhouse on its acquisition of North West software consultancy Maven Solutions and continued its longstanding relationship with Midlands-based Johnsons Cars Ltd, assisting on the acquisition of an additional dealership for the motor dealer.
Finally, a team led by partner Jeremy Parkin acted for the sellers of both a medical devices business and a software company, in deals worth several million pounds.
Gareth O’Hara, corporate partner at the Wilkes Partnership, said: “It’s great to see deal levels in the region getting back on track after more than a year of slowed activity. Hopefully these more substantial deal volumes are indicative of the growing confidence of Britain’s businesses and a sign that the economic outlook may not be as negative as some may think.
“With some interesting high value deals in the pipeline, our strategy of providing clients with a real alternative to national practices is helping to give businesses the confidence to think about deal activity. We’re looking forward to seeing these through to completion.”
