Blues owner Carson Yeung’s trial adjourned

BIRMINGHAM City owner Carson Yeung has won a delay of his trial on money laundering charges until April 29.

Hong Kong District Court Judge Douglas Yau granted the request from Yeung’s lawyer who successfully argued the defence needed more time to gather evidence.

When it comes back to court, the trial is expected to last a minimum of three weeks, but could quite feasibly stretch out for longer.

Blues’ parent company, Birmingham International Holdings, has been suspended from trading in Hong Kong since June 2011, when Yeung, its chairman, was charged with five counts of money laundering which involved around £59m. He was refused permission to leave the territory before his trial.

Yeung bought Birmingham City in October 2009 for £81.5m.

Negotiations to sell the club are on-going with at least two consortiums linked with a takeover bid.
