Apprenticeships: adding value to your business

THE Government’s commitment to increase spending on Apprenticeships is an area of economic policy on which there is universal support.

Business owners and managers in the West Midlands have embraced the idea of taking on apprentices, acutely aware that training the next generation is the best way to ensure the skills necessary to thrive in the future are in place.

Now TheBusinessDesk.com is proud to have joined forces with the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) for a breakfast seminar which will provide you with the opportunity to find out how Apprenticeships have benefited local businesses and how you too could enhance your company’s future prospects by adding an apprentice to your workforce.

More than 200,000 workplaces in England employ apprentices because they bring increased productivity, improved competitiveness and a committed and competent workforce.

With frameworks in sectors from graphic design to electric vehicle engineering, there is an apprenticeship suitable for every business. The mixture of classroom learning and on the job experience means apprentices gain the skills that work best for your business.

But there are still plenty of firms in this region which have not yet taken advantage of emerging talent of this kind and the help that is at hand in engaging with them.

David Way, Chief Executive of the National Apprenticeship Service, said:
“Apprenticeships are a great way for young people and adult learners to earn while they learn in a real job, gaining a real qualification; and setting them on the road to success in their chosen career. For employers, hiring apprentices is a way of attracting new talent and developing a motivated, skilled and diverse workforce.

“This seminar will give you the opportunity to hear from an employer and apprentice who have already experienced the benefits Apprenticeships can bring. The National Apprenticeship Service will also be on hand to give information on funding available, including our AGE 16 to 24 grant which offers £1,500 to eligible employers.

“They will also guide you though the simple three-step process to hiring an apprentice; decide, deliver, develop.”

Andy Coyne, editor of TheBusinessDesk.com, said: “Apprenticeships are the life blood of the regional economy and many companies have realised that bringing people in and training them up is the way forward.

“The purpose of our event with the NAS is to give businesses that have thought about taking on apprentices but have not yet acted on that thought additional information about why this may well be the best route forward to help ensure their future prosperity.”

Our breakfast seminar takes place on Friday March 22 at the Novotel, 70 Broad Street, Birmingham, B1 2HT. Registration and breakfast is from 7.30am and the seminar runs from 9am to 10am.

Our panel of experts includes Karen Woodward – National Apprenticeship Service, Divisional Apprenticeship Director Central.

The event will be hosted by Andy Coyne, Editor of TheBusinessDesk.com, Midlands.
