Severn Trent announces chief executive is to step down

MIDLAND utility Severn Trent has announced that its chief executive Tony Wray is to step down next year.

Mr Wray, who will retire next spring, has been with the Coventry-based water utility for nine years, seven of which as CEO.

The Severn Trent board said the announcement was being made now so the hunt for his successor could begin.

The firm said the plan was to allow Mr Wray to lead Severn Trent for the next year, oversee the submission of its Final Business Plan to Ofwat for the PR14 price review and manage an orderly handover to his successor.

Andrew Duff, Severn Trent chairman, said: “Tony is a highly effective chief executive of Severn Trent.  Under his leadership the business has undergone significant transformations and operational improvement.

“Tony has also been an influential voice within the industry and has played a significant part in setting its future direction.  With a strong executive team in place the timing of this decision provides Severn Trent with continuity of leadership and the necessary time to search for and identify his successor.”
