Sofa retailer CSL creates 60 jobs with new £1m store

MORE than 60 new jobs have been created in Solihull with the opening of a new furniture retailer. Sofa specialist CSL opens its store on the Solihull Gate Retail Park tomorrow.

The store, the 24th in the company’s portfolio, covers 22,000ft² and represents a £1m investment in the area by the retailer. The new store also includes a distribution centre.

The new store is also one of the first to use CSL’s innovative ‘Digital Interactive Price Cards’. The software allows customers to browse through an extended range of products on mini iPads.

With some products now having up to 30 pieces available in up to 40 different colours, the iPads are intended to make it easier for customers to visualise what the product looks like. They also allow for a personalised style sheet and a quotation.

Jason Tyldesley, CSL managing director, said: “Our new Solihull store is the first in the West Midlands and is a major part of our growth strategy, which is seeing us move into new regions across the UK.

“Alongside the store we’ve also invested in a distribution centre which will allow us to fulfil customers’ orders more quickly.”

CSL’s expansion into the West Midlands follows a record year for the business with gross revenues hitting £110m in 2012. Pre-tax profits for the year to December 31, 2012 increased to £2.5m (2011: £0.2 m).  A big jump in sales performance was driven by a combination of successful store openings and a dramatic increase in direct orders through the online business, which has been attributed to its increased national advertising investment.
