Presswork manufacturer expands with new jobs to cope with demand

A BIRMINGHAM presswork manufacturer is set to expand in order to cope with increased demand for its services.

H T Brigham is working on a series of sizable new projects which are planned to ramp up in production during 2013. This, in addition to the firm’s ongoing increasing workload over the last 12 months, has prompted the need for more capacity.

The expansion, which is planned to be completed in September, involves an investment of approximately £25,000, and will result in a number of new jobs in various departments including goods inwards, stock control and material distribution.

The recruitment follows a year during which the pressing manufacturer workforce has already increased its workforce by 25%.

The firm has taken over an adjacent unit, which it already owned but which had been previously let out. This is now being prepared for use to expand the warehouse department. Tenders to Midland-based architects and contractors have been issued and work is due to start in early July.

The new unit, which will more than double the department’s floor space, will comprise specially designated zones for material receipt, WIP, finished goods, packing and despatch. The unit will also provide improved access for deliveries and collections, as well as additional tool storage space. The results will improve process efficiency and increase productive space on the factory floor.

The finished unit footprint will optimise workflow through the section, reducing process waste and ultimately improving efficiency. Principles including ergonomic working practices, which have already been successfully implemented on the factory floor, will be incorporated to assist this process. The firm said the result would be a more streamlined process from material receipt right through to component despatch.
