Shipp takes the helm at SGH Martineau

BIRMINGHAM law firm SGH Martineau has appointed a new managing partner to the firm’s senior management team.

Emma Shipp will take over from Bill Barker, who led Martineau for nearly ten years.

Shipp became a partner in the firm’s corporate department in 1993 and has extensive experience as a negotiator in mergers and acquisitions, disposals and corporate finance generally.

She is also said to have an in-depth knowledge of partnership deeds, LLP deeds, shareholder agreements, insolvency procedures, restructuring documents and joint venture agreements.

In recent times her responsibilities have included corporate mandates in the education sector.

Speaking of her appointment, Shipp said: “My appointment comes at the conclusion of a detailed strategic review of the firm and my remit will be to harness the many talents in the firm to drive forward the business, especially in our chosen sectors, by refining and continuously improving the quality and range of services we offer our clients.”

Senior partner Andrew Whitehead said: “Emma is widely recognised in the industry and amongst clients as an excellent manager and lawyer. I’m looking forward to working very closely with her to implement our new strategy and take SGH Martineau to the next level.”

Out-going managing partner Bill Barker will remain at the firm in a client-facing capacity and will also be available to offer help and support to Shipp throughout the transition period.

SGH Martineau has offices in Birmingham, London and Brussels.
