Toy retailer gears up for Christmas rush with 18 new recruits

A BIRMINGHAM toy store has made preparations for the busy festive period by linking up with an employment and training supplier to recruit 18 unemployed people.

Smyths Toys, which has a store at Castle Vale Retail Park, teamed up with Pertemps People Development Group (PPDG) to find the new recruits as it gears up for the Christmas sales rush.

PPDG staged two recruitment days at its Chelmsley Wood Advancement Centre, at which Joe Dale, the manager of Smyths Toys, attended.

The retailer has taken on 18 people in a variety of posts including sales assistants, cashiers, stock assistants and customer service assistants.

Jayne Hanson, employer liaison co-ordinator at PPDG, said: “We have a fantastic working relationship with Smyths Toys and this is the third year running that they have chosen to work with us. It is fantastic that a major high street retailer is offering job opportunities to local unemployed people and it is a brilliant boost for these successful PPDG clients.”
