Searcys scales new heights in Birmingham to run Balcony brasserie for Selfridges

ONE of the UK’s most celebrated restaurant operators has been lined up to run another of Birmingham’s unique culinary offerings.

Selfridges in the Bullring is supplementing its dining scene with the opening of a new bar and brasserie.

Located on the fourth floor of Selfridges, The Balcony is billed as being ‘fashionably British’, serving food and drinks with a “playful twist” in a stylish and contemporary environment to the fashionistas of the city.

The Balcony will be run by Searcys, the restaurant and bar operator famed for its champagne bars. Earlier this year, the company was appointed to manage Birmingham’s new Rep Bar and expand a portfolio that includes St Pancras Grand Brasserie and a private members club at the top of the Gherkin.

Set to open on November 23, The Balcony will be open every day from 10am through to 10pm. Visitors can expect traditional favourites such as fish and chips, as well as more unusual dishes including chorizo hash browns and chicken & waffles.

The brasserie will also offer an extensive Champagne list, skinny cocktails, afternoon tea and quirky seasonal treats including plant pot cakes, edible flower cocktails, and brussel sprout tapas.

The menu has been devised by Arnaud Stevens, the Executive Chef for Searcys, who grew up in Birmingham and has worked extensively with world famous chefs such as Gordon Ramsey, Pierre Koffman and Richard Corrigan.

He said: “We are so pleased to become a part of what is one of the most iconic buildings in the country. Selfridges is known for its cutting-edge, bold and stylish personality, and The Balcony will very much aim to reflect this.”

Vicki Cain, General Manager at Selfridges Birmingham, added: “Searcys is very much synonymous with outstanding quality and service, so visitors can expect only the best from The Balcony. We’re very excited to open the restaurant’s doors and provide the city with a brand new dining experience.”
