Duckers & Diving: It’s a Right Royal Night Out for the Honourable Anthony

THIS week our stout scribe and ardent royalist is on the trail of city business figure Tony Taylor as he mingles with the beautiful people at one of London’s A-List events.
There are some things in life you would never dream of doing if you had to pay for them, but when it’s a freebie … well that’s different and after all, it would be rude not to, wouldn’t it?
Hence Birmingham businessman Tony Taylor and wife Elizabeth, at the request of old mate Mike Southon, were invited to join a table at the Royal Variety Performance , this year attended by Prince Charles and Camilla – who I’ve both told were very honoured that the old boy could attend.
So in the Taylor household hotel rooms and trains are booked, best bibs and tuckers are donned and passports are in place for identification.
They arrive at Oxford Circus to find people in DJs queuing as far as the eye can see!
Then when they get their tickets they find they’re virtually sitting on the stage – it’s going to be a special night.
John Bishop only swears three times – Jimmy Carr confesses to only knowing two clean jokes – Dame Edna appears in the Royal Box.
Plus Gary Barlow, Robbie Williams, Chas and Dave and a host of other stars turn out to see the Taylors.
He even manages to bump into Christine Bohemia in the ice cream queue … as you do.
Afterwards it’s off in a limo to the Hilton for dinner at 11.30 pm, where they get to chat to Harry Hill and Gareth Malone.
But we are not done yet. They also meet up with Roag Best, son of the unluckiest musician in the business, Pete Best, the Beatles drummer ousted by Ringo.
It was an amazing evening and finally ends at 2.45 am.
Methinks Taylor could get quite used to the lifestyle.
He’s already hinting he should be addressed as the “Honourable Anthony”.
More like dishonourable if you ask me!
