City Link predicts greater efficiency following trailer investment

DELIVERY company City Link is investing in 86 new double-deck trailers as it continues to modernise its business following its acquisition by Better Capital earlier this year.

No monetary value has been put on the investment.

The first batch of 20 off the production line will be delivered throughout the Christmas peak and form a key part of Coventry-based City Link’s operational plan for the busy Christmas/New Year period.

The trailers are being built by vehicle body and trailer manufacturer Cartwright and supplied by Fraikin – a contract hire, fleet management and rental solutions specialist. They are being supplied on a seven-year full service contract hire inclusive of repair and maintenance.

City Link has been working in close collaboration with Cartwright and Fraikin – which is also based in Coventry – for the last 12 months on the development of the trailer.

The firm says Its advanced design will increase efficiency and reliability, whilst at the same time offering a reduced environmental impact.

Mark Dudley, customer manager at Fraikin, said: “We are delighted to have won this new contract with City Link which is testament to the good working relationship we have built up over many years.

“We will continue to collaborate closely with City Link to ensure we provide the optimum transport solution for their business needs.”

The roll out of the double-deck trailers, all replacements to City Link’s existing fleet, will take place from the second week of December until the end of January. Within the next six months City Link will have modernised half of its trailer fleet – the current intake represents around 40% of that target.

City Link operations director Adele Henderson said: “This significant investment in our trailer fleet reaffirms our intent to modernise and grow our business since City Link’s acquisition in April.”
