Lodent Precision engineers long-term future with new apprentices

A WALSALL engineering firm is sustaining its skills base for its long-term future by recruiting five new apprentices.

Brownhills-based tool-making firm Lodent Precision has taken on the five trainees by working in collaboration with Walsall Borough Council’s apprenticeship scheme, Walsall Works.

Lodent will provide the apprentices with permanent employment while allowing the students to attend college one or two days a week to achieve NVQ qualifications.

Since September all five trainees have been receiving training in various areas including Bench Fitting, Manual Machining, Welding and Computer Aided Design (CAD).

Each does a three-month rotation in order secure a working knowledge of every department within the business.

Chris Sharratt, a director at Lodent Precision said the apprentices had been a major success, bringing fresh talent and energy to the business.

“We’re proud of all of our apprentices, their enthusiasm and willingness to learn is a credit to them,” he said.

“This is the way forward, not only for us but for all employers in the UK; we’re delighted to be part of this revolution and grateful for the support we have received from Walsall Council.”

The Walsall Works incentive is open to Walsall-based companies that work in a range of sectors, including engineering & manufacturing, construction, professional & business services, health & social care and logistics.

Each employer could receive a grant of up to £6,000 for each apprentice that they take on.

Cllr Adrian Andrew, Walsall’s regeneration and transport leader, said: “It is terrific to see this business investing in its apprenticeship programme which will greatly reap dividends in years to come with a loyal, young, highly-skilled workforce.”
