Coventry land deal clears the way for £5m new housing development

HOUSING developer, Persimmon Homes South Midlands is poised to start work on a new £5m scheme after securing a deal to acquire land in Coventry.

The 2.4 acre parcel of land off Skipworth Road, Binley was purchased by Persimmon after original owner, ‘The Salvation Army Trustee Company’ decided the land was surplus to its requirements.

Adjacent to the Youell Court care home, the plot is close to central Coventry and Coombe Country Park, making it a prime location for a residential development.

Planning permission for the collection of 41, two, three and four bedroom homes has been approved by Coventry City Council‘s planning committee and work on the new homes is expected to start on site in early June.

Andy Peters, managing director for Persimmon Homes South Midlands, said: “The new build market is extremely competitive and we are acutely aware of the need to build the very best homes in the most sought after locations. With this in mind we are very excited to start-on-site in Binley and expect demand for the homes to be high once the properties are released for sale in July.”

Binley is considered a sought after suburb situated on the eastern fringe of Coventry, approximately 3.5 miles from the city centre with good access to the motorway and rail networks.

Persimmon is hoping the pick-up in the residential market, supported by Government initiatives such as Help to Buy scheme, will improve the appeal of such developments.
