Former Swindon Town chairman linked to Blues takeover

LOCAL newspaper reports suggest former Swindon Town chairman Jeremy Wray is part of the consortium which is in talks with Birmingham City executives about buying a stake in the club.

Wray and two associates from Soccer Management Worldwide – former Tottenham Hotspur chief executive Peter Day and journalist Tony Rees – have been named as the men looking to buy a chunk of Blues.

The reports suggest the exclusive talks are at an advanced stage and that Wray was at St Andrew’s on Thursday as the consortium continue the due diligence process.

Earlier this week Blues confirmed it has received an approach by a British-based third party to buy the club.

However, the board of Birmingham International Holdings said as it was their intention to retain the business as a floated company on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange it was only interested in disposing of a 24% stake in the football club.

Speculation about the fate of the St Andrew’s club, which narrowly avoided relegation to League One on the final day of the season, has been rife for some time.

Blues owner Carson Yeung was jailed for six years in March after being found guilty of money laundering in Hong Kong. He is appealing against the verdict and sentence.

Yeung remains Birmingham’s largest shareholder but has resigned from all positions related to the club.
