Work starts on £7m expansion at MIRA Technology Park

CONSTRUCTION work has begun on the latest expansion of facilities at the MIRA Technology Park in Warwickshire.

The 1.75m sq ft centre, near Hinckley, is constructing a brand new 27,500 sq ft facility, which is set to house a number of global tier-one companies and vehicle manufacturers.

The fully-let building – valued at £7m – is another step in MIRA ambitions to fulfil its strategy of accelerating the growth and job creation potential of its Enterprise Zone.

The new facility comprises both office space and workshop facilities for five internationally-known businesses. It will create around 100 additional jobs at the technology park site, which is a designated Enterprise Zone.

The development is another landmark in the first phase of the park’s £300m expansion plan. Earlier this year, as part of the initial phase of work, construction took place on a 42,500 sq ft building earmarked as a European Technical Centre for Swedish automotive firm, Haldex.

Terry Spall, Commercial Director at MIRA Technology Park, said: “We are delighted to announce the construction of another building here at MIRA Technology Park, which will be completed towards the end of 2014.

“The MIRA Technology Park proposition is being marketed across the globe, and we are continuing  to attract  high-profile blue chip organisations – including international vehicle manufacturers and global Tier 1 component suppliers – to the site which is a great example of exactly what the Enterprise Zone has been established to achieve.

“Around 100 engineers and support staff will be located within this new building, and with the continuing growth in the auto sector creating an ever increasing demand for skilled engineers and technicians, MIRA is continuing to working alongside companies arriving on the Technology Park to ensure these they can find the skills and expertise they need.”

Coventry contractor Deeley Construction is carrying out the latest project, as it has with all the development work currently taking place within the technology park.

The new series of tenants will join existing businesses already based at the technology park, including Bosch, Lockheed Martin and Ashok Leyland.

Since 2010, MIRA Technology Park has created 250 technology-related jobs as a result of the expansion. A further 170 are due to be created by the end of 2014. The ultimate intention is to create up to 2,000 jobs and eventually house businesses from across the automotive, aerospace, rail, defence and associated digital technology sectors.
