Willmott Dixon Partnerships go the distance for St Basils

THREE teams of employees from Willmott Dixon Partnerships have joined forces to raise money for a young homeless charity in Birmingham.

Ten volunteers from the repairs and maintenance specialist’s south Birmingham, north Birmingham and constructing West Midlands branches tackled St Basils Annual Walk Challenge.

The teams completed a challenging 13 mile route through the Forest of Dean in an attempt to raise more than £1,000 for the charity.

St Basils works with young people across Birmingham and North Worcestershire to help them to find and manage a home, develop their confidence and skills and to prevent homelessness.

Willmott’s Dixon customer and community partner Melanie Checkley said: “We have a long-term relationship with St Basils and are proud to be supporting them by taking part in their annual walk challenge.

“This is the third year that we’ve tackled the walk and it’s been our most successful yet – all of our volunteers have worked really hard to beat last year’s fundraising target.”

Birmingham businesses get on their bikes for the NSPCC

A GROUP of Birmingham-based business people are getting onto their bikes for a 50-mile cycle challenge to raise money for local NSPCC services.

The NSPCC Birmingham Business Board has recently re-launched with a group of six top city based business people to raise money for local children’s services delivered by the charity.

The members are Darren Laurie, an IT contract outsourcer for Atos, Shah Zaki, owner of Orbis Partners, Adrian Cutler, a partner with Black Country law firm Higgs & Sons, Neil Dunsby, a partner at Dunsby Associates and Tyler Woods, who is interning at Birmingham Chamber of Commerce.

Nick Johnson from accountancy firm Mazars in Birmingham is also a member of the board.

The six members will be cycling 50 miles through Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and the West Midlands.

The Birmingham Business Board’s mission is to raise £250,000 funds to cover the yearly running costs of the NSPCC Birmingham Service Centre in Newhall Square, which provides services to help local children affected by neglect, sexual abuse and help to those in care.

Gateley raises thousands for local charity

FOLLOWING a year of fundraising activity, the Birmingham office of law firm Gateley has raised more than £6,200 for local charity Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice.

Every year, each of the firm’s regional offices nominates a local charity to benefit from its fundraising efforts. Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice was chosen due to the vital care it provides for patients and families living with an incurable illness across Birmingham and Sandwell.

In addition to dress down days, bake sales and raffles, the Birmingham office raised money via a number of one off events.

In October, a team of runners and cyclists took part in the first ever ‘Gateley Biathlon’. The biathlon involved runners completing the Birmingham Half Marathon one weekend before handing the baton over to a team of cyclists who completed a 23 mile bike ride around Sherwood Forest, Nottingham the next.

A total of £1,000 was raised which will pay for many hours of palliative care at the hospice.

Theresa Meek, corporate fundraiser at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, said: “We are delighted with Gateley’s fundraising efforts over the past 12 months.

“The hospice is here to ensure that those with a terminal illness are able to enjoy the best possible quality of life during the time they have left, whilst helping their loved ones to cope with loss.

“Gateley’s donation will help to continue this service.”
