MG expansion reaches major milestone with 50th new dealership

MG has reached a major milestone in its drive to re-establish itself as a leading British motoring business.

The Chinese-owned company has been seeing spectacular growth – albeit based on low volumes – during the past six months. The growth has been fuelled by the launched of its popular MG3 supermini, buyer incentives and the expansion of its dealer network.

The latter move has now seen the opening of the brand’s 50th dealer. The opening comes just weeks after MG announced sustained growth in 2014, with a doubling of its 2013 total in just five months.

The latest additions to the dealer network are: Seward MG in Havant and Central Garages in Torbay.

The Longbridge-based manufacturer is planning to open a total of 80 dealers in the UK by the end of the year, expanding to 100 by the end of 2015.

Since November 2013, 22 new MG dealerships have opened which, including Havant and Torquay, are: south Sheffield, Dudley, Gloucester, north Sheffield, Woking, Spalding, Barnes in West London, Newcastle, Leicester, Harrogate, Doncaster, Northampton, Swindon, Norwich, Falmouth, Brecon, Maidstone, Wareham on the Purbeck peninsula, Oxfordshire and Exeter.

MG said further new dealer appointments would be announced shortly.

The company has also been boosted by a fleet order contract for 20 of its latest DTi-Tech diesel MG6 GT from SMA Vehicle Remarketing.

SMA Vehicle Remarketing is the largest and oldest independent motor auction group in the UK with more than 35 years experience in the industry.

Bob Anderson, managing director of SMA Vehicle Remarketing said that in assessing its options for its fleet, the firm had a number of attractive propositions.

“However, MG with its distinctive and historic brand is something we knew would create an immediate level of interest with our customers as our field team visited them. SMA is a company with a rich and proud heritage, which is on a strong upward growth trajectory; the MG brand is in a similar position with significant growth in its dealer network,” he said.

Guy Jones, sales and marketing director of MG UK said: “The latest developments with our diesel MG6 and the launch of our MG3 supermini mean we now have both the product range and a rapidly expanding national dealer network to give fleets a new choice.”
