MIRA to host global intelligent mobility summit

A MAJOR global summit centred on the evolution of intelligent mobility will take place in Warwickshire later this year.

Future Transit Systems 2014 will bring together leading transport academics, practitioners and technologists at the MIRA Technology Park in Nuneaton. The discussion will focus on the revolutionary developments in intelligent mobility and in-vehicle technology.

The three-day summit will take in the automotive, rail and aerospace sectors, and will focus on advances such as driverless vehicles and integrated transport.

The event, which will run from September 30 to October 2, is being supported by the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP).

Companies from the automotive, digital and security, aerospace, academia, water, port, rail, transport, legislation, defence, funding and policy industries will all be demonstrating their innovative capabilities using MIRA’s proving ground with live demonstrations.

The move is part of MIRA’s aim to establish itself as a knowledge cluster for the unmanned vehicle sector.

The summit will also identify leading trends, best practice and state-of-the-art equipment and technology solutions. It is billed as an open workshop for companies looking to share world-leading intelligent mobility technology, data and expertise.

Jonathan Browning, chairman of Coventry and Warwickshire LEP, said: “This is a prestigious summit which will showcase cutting-edge technology in the intelligent mobility sector which is the future of the transport industry.

“One of the key economic drivers in Coventry and Warwickshire is the high number and quality of advanced manufacturing companies which are located here – many of whom are involved in transport – and it makes perfect sense to host the Future Transit Systems in the area.

“We are a world-leader in the advanced manufacturing and engineering sector and the work which is developing in future transit systems is truly ground-breaking.”

The idea for the summit came from discussions between the LEP and the Department for Business Innovation and Skills, UK Trade and Investment, Technology Strategy Board, Department for Transport, Catapult Transport Systems and Communities and local government.
