New singles club enterprise launches in Birmingham

A NEW networking business enterprise for Birmingham’s singles has been launched.

LuvDrop’s founder says it hopes to differentiate itself from conventional speed-dating events and online matchmaking services by organising events where small groups of people can meet in an informal, no-pressure environment.

The only stipulation for customers to become a member of LuvDrop is that they are single.

LuvDrop, which is a paid-for membership service costing £20 a quarter to join, was launched by Birmingham-based businesswoman and event manager Rickie Josen and accountant Darren Hawkins.

Its companion website LuvDrop.com uses the American online event planning platform Meetup.com which was invented to give web users a free tool to start up and organise social events and groups.

The duo have also bought the domain names Luvdrop.com and Luvdrop.co.uk.

Miss Josen told TheBusinessDesk.com: “It’s more about meeting people with common interests. It’s for single people to encourage a dating scene in Birmingham.

“I’ve been here a year and I don’t see any evidence of one. It’s not necessarily to meet Mr or Miss Right, it’s to get out there and be sociable.

“There’s no comparison to speed dating. It’s using modern technology to get people to meet in an old-fashioned way in a bar.”

All events will have at least two hosts in order to prevent guests feeling left out and a cap of around 20 people.

Miss Josen says she hopes to host the first event in Birmingham during October and will initially aim to run three or four per month, using function rooms or cordoned off sections in bars.

If successful, this number would increase and might be rolled out to other town and cities across the country, she said.
