Carillion signs £90m contract for Hoola development in London

WOLVERHAMPTON construction and support services giant Carillion has signed a £90m contract with HUB for its Hoola London project in the capital’s Royal Docks.

It follows Carillion’s appointment as preferred bidder for the residential project earlier in the year.

The contract involves the design and construction of one 24 storey tower and one 23 storey tower, providing 360 residential apartments and one commercial unit.

It will have strong environmental features including blue roofs, which have been developed to manage surface water run-off and storage and energy sharing agreements to provide district heating.

Work will commence on site immediately and is scheduled for completion by the Autumn of 2016. Carillion will use this project to create 40 new apprenticeships.

Richard Howson, Carillion chief executive, said: “We are delighted to have signed the contract to deliver the Hoola London development.

“Being chosen for this prestigious project reflects our reputation for reliable delivery, high standards of quality, value for money and sustainability, together with the strength of our long-term customer relationships.”

Meanwhile, Carillion is still keen to merge with rival Balfour Beatty despite that firm’s initial rejection of its bid.

Reports over the weekend suggested Carillion chairman Philip Green would be expected to head up the £3bn construction giant that would be created from the planned merger.

Usually after a merger the top roles are divided, but Carillion’s chief executive Howson is also set to take up the same role at the combined company, according to the Sunday Times, citing sources.

The companies have until August 21 to announce a firm intention to merge or shelve plans for a deal.
