N G Bailey secures £9m contract on new university library

ENGINEERING contractor, NG Bailey, has secured a contract worth more than £9m to fit-out the new library at the University of Birmingham.
The firm’s Engineering division, which has a base at Sheldon, will carry out the £9.2m mechanical & electrical contract in collaboration with library developer Carillion.
The work will include the installation and new build design of the library, which will cover six storeys over a 16,000m² floor area.
The project – which is due for completion in September 2016 – will also provide the university with a gallery space in which it can showcase research to the local community.
The £42m building is being designed to provide a more efficient use of space, energy and resource for staff, students and researchers.
Commenting on the contract win, Mike Darlington, managing director for NG Bailey’s Engineering division, said: “This is a great win for us and demonstrates the strength of our offering. We have over 40 years’ experience working in Birmingham, so this is testament to our long-term success in the Midlands region.
“We carried out all the building modelling and as a result, were able to understand, influence and control the design parameters, helping to provide a more intelligent building.”
Students will benefit from a variety of learning spaces and flexible, technology-rich training rooms where they can receive academic skills support offered by library services staff.
NG Bailey is one of the UK’s leading independent engineering, IT and facilities services businesses.
