WYG strengthens presence with Alliance Planning merger

PROJECT management consultancy WYG has merged its planning division with Alliance Planning, which has an office in Birmingham.
WYG said the merger would strengthen its offering in planning services, making it one of the largest planning consultancies in the UK.
Steven Fidgett, owner and director of Alliance Planning, has agreed to join WYG as new Head of Discipline for Planning.
Established in 1996, Alliance Planning has rapidly expanded its consultancy and in addition to Birmingham has offices in London, Guildford and the East of England.
Its 31 planning, heritage and urban design consultants advise on every aspect of development, from historic environment and natural resources to master planning, housing and high density urban living.
The merger sees WYG’s existing team grow to more than 100, making it a top five UK planning consultancy.
WYG said the merger was in line with its strategy to grow the business through selective acquisitions. It said the strategy offered clients a wider scope of planning services and enabled country-wide geographical coverage.
Commenting on the merger, Fidgett said: “This is an exciting chapter for the Alliance Planning team, who join WYG at a time of significant growth and opportunity. I look forward to leading this new combined team of highly skilled planners at WYG, delivering class leading performance throughout the UK.”
Tim Holden, Head of Region, UK, WYG, said: “We feel privileged to welcome all 31 talented individuals who have made the success of Alliance Planning and look forward to undertaking new projects together. This is good news for our clients all over the UK who will now benefit from an enhanced and comprehensive range of planning services.”
WYG employs approximately 1,400 employees across the world. In the UK, it operates in eight key disciplines: Planning, Transport, Environment, Engineering, Energy, Management Services, Waste & Geo-Environment and Urban & Landscape Design.
