DTZ staff get on their bikes for charity

BIRMINGHAM property consultancy DTZ has taken to two wheels to raise money for charity at Bike Week 2014.

The aim was to aim of pedal 20,000 miles to raise £20,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The week saw  DTZ carry out a series of cycling activities across the firm’s UK offices.

The money raised during Bike Week will contribute to DTZ’s pledge
to raise £150,000 for the charity over three years.

The event coincided with the TCT’s Action Week, which aims to raise awareness about teenage cancer.

DTZ staff were encouraged to organise cycling events in teams, multiple individual challenges and local activities across the UK, culminating with formal regional closing events.

In the Midlands, 60 staff and clients donned lycra and made the 50 mile journey from DTZ’s Birmingham office to its Cheltenham office.

In addition spin bike challenges took place in every office, where teams of three to six people had 20 minutes to cycle as far as possible.

A company-wide Just Giving site was also set up to monitor the money raised with DTZ matching £1 for every £1 staff raised.

Jenny Bull, corporate account manager for Teenage Cancer Trust, said: “Cycling 20,000 miles in a week is no mean feat and we are so impressed with DTZ’s inspiring and energetic fundraising for us and can’t thank them enough.”

Rant & Raver completes epic bike ride for charity

A CUSTOMER engagement specialist from Coventry-based Rant & Rave has taken on the challenge of riding 310 miles in under 24 hours to raise more than £1,450 for charity.

Nick Boxall-Hunt, together with his friend Henry Erdozain, began the ride in Finsbury Park in London and arrived in Newcastle the following day – 35 minutes inside their target time.

The cycle ride was in support of Action for A-T, a charity set up by a friend of Nick and Henry’s, which works to find a cure for Ataxia-Telangiectasia – a rare, genetic and degenerative childhood disease that affects multiple systems of the body.

Nick and Henry’s friend’s daughter suffers from this devastating fatal disease.

Boxall-Hunt said: “The bike ride was a massive physical and mental challenge but a fantastic experience and we are so pleased and grateful to have raised so much money.

“To do this in support of Action for A-T, a charity that is close to both our hearts, also means a lot as it is a relatively unknown disease and charity.

Property professionals step up a gear

MORE than £3,000 was raised by property professionals from across the region turning out for the fifth JLL Charitable Classic and Sports Car Reliability Run.

Names such as Crest Nicholson, LCP Properties and Barberry Developments took to the road, starting at Rybrook’s Specialist Cars site in Hockley Heath.

Enjoying a scenic drive to Melton Mowbray, followed by a courtesy parade lap of Leicestershire’s famous race track Mallory Park and lunch kindly provided by Peter Leach from EOS Interiors, the car enthusiasts drove back through Rutland Waters, before returning to the Boot at Lapworth for a de-brief.

Nigel Simkin, from the planning and development team of JLL who organised the day, said: “Now into our fifth year, the turnout is as strong as ever. The sun shone, which helped with numbers and everyone had a great time, whilst raising a significant amount for a very worthwhile cause.”

The Samaritans has been JLL’s chosen charity partner since 2013 and to date over £400,000 has been raised.

CEO of The Binding Site all set to run for Cure Leukaemia

CHARLESs de Rohan, chief executive of biotech company and official Cure Leukaemia charity partner The Binding Site is gearing up to run for the charity in the Bupa Great Birmingham Run.

He joins 25 other employees from the Birmingham company who will take to the streets of the Second City next month to raise funds and awareness for the charity.

The Binding Site has been raising funds for Cure Leukaemia since November 2013 with many staff members taking part in various challenges such as the Great Midlands Fun Run, Three Peaks Challenge and other fundraising activities.

Charles has said this will be his first (and quite probably the last) participation in the race and is already close to raising £1,000 on his Just Giving page, a figure that will be worth £10,000 in potentially life-saving drug treatments for leukaemia patients battling the disease in the region.

He said, “I am very proud to be a part of The Binding Site’s team of runners in this year’s Bupa Great Birmingham Run.

“We are running for a fantastic charity in Cure Leukaemia and I know every penny we raise will directly help patients battling this terrible disease.”
